What your local Labour team has achieved for our community:

Bringing down Council debt so we can invest in our community
Since 2024, your Labour team has helped deliver the biggest improvement in the Council’s finances for years. £45 million of historic debt has been cleared, saving around £850,000 in interest each year. This frees up public money previously lost to loan interest and reinvests it into services, housing and local priorities. We have balanced the books and funded investments through good commercial management in 2026/27, so Brentwood can invest confidently in its future.

Cleaner streets, more bins and better frontline services
“People notice overflowing bins and dirty pavements. Our job is to fix those basics, and we have put forward the resources to do exactly that.” Cllr Elizabeth Jerrard
Residents asked for cleaner streets and well‑maintained public spaces, and we acted. We have secured extra funding for additional street-cleansing staff, improved supervision at Warley Depot, and better training for frontline teams. At the same time, we are repairing and replacing damaged and undersized litter bins to increase capacity in busy areas. It means cleaner pavements, fewer overflowing bins and a town that looks and feels cared for.

Freezing car park charges for two years running
We know the cost of living is hitting residents and businesses hard. That is why Labour councillors have helped freeze charges in Council car parks for a second year in a row. It supports local shops and restaurants, keeps the High Street competitive, and makes Brentwood a more attractive and affordable place to shop.

Transforming the Brentwood Centre and Baytree Centre
“We are turning long promised projects into real bricks and mortar.” Cllr Gareth Barrett
Brentwood Centre
After years of talking, we are now delivering. Labour councillors have led the project that secured a £25 million redevelopment of the Brentwood Centre, turning it into a modern leisure and community hub for the next generation, with the first works already underway on the swimming pool.
Baytree Centre
We are also backing a £5 million regeneration of the Baytree Centre to bring new life to the town centre, with improved public spaces and a more attractive mix of shops and leisure facilities. These enhancements, which will start this summer, will support local jobs, boost the local economy and give Brentwood South residents facilities to be proud of.
Making Brentwood safer with more CCTV and enforcement
Your Labour team has backed new investment in CCTV in key town‑centre and residential hotspots, supporting Essex Police in tackling anti‑social behaviour and crime. We have also strengthened enforcement against fly‑tipping and nuisance parking. Residents should feel safe and proud of where they live, and we are making that a priority.
Backing community projects through locality grants
We launched Locality Grants to give community groups direct access to small grants that support grassroots projects. After a successful first year, we have extended the scheme, with another £100,000 available across Brentwood. Locally this means support for local groups working on mental health, youth activities, community gardens and neighbourhood events, trusting local people and groups to know what they need.

Improving Council housing and building new affordable homes for Brentwood residents
Your Labour team has prioritised safe, warm and decent homes. Since 2024, we have supported major investment in existing council housing, including new roofs, kitchens, bathrooms, windows, and heating systems, giving tenants safe, warm and modern homes “We are delivering new-build social housing for our local housing waiting list, which gives the families of Brentwood better life opportunities.” Cllr Dr Tim Barrett Alongside this, the local team have pushed forward the Strategic Housing Development Programme is delivering more than 100 new affordable homes for local people by 2028, helping to tackle the housing crisis and reduce local waiting lists for Brentwood residents.
