Manifesto for Brentwood 2015 – pledge 3

P1010669The Labour members of Brentwood Borough Council have been working hard on your behalf since the last election to ensure that frontline services are protected in the face of unprecedented funding cuts by the Conservative-led Government.

However, we still need to ensure all members of our community receive the support they require to live independently, and with more Labour Councillors we could achieve many more of our ambitions. To highlight the difference we could make, and our intentions if successful, we have produced our Manifesto for Brentwood which outlines our five pledges to the residents of Brentwood.

Pledge 3: Back our local community with long-term support for voluntary groups and investment in our parks.

We will:

  • Change the process of council tendering so that groups like Brentwood Community Transport, Citizens Advice and Brentwood Council for Voluntary Services have long-term, stable funding.
  • Invest further in the Community Fund to support capital investment in voluntary facilities like Scout huts, community halls and volunteer hubs.
  • Support only proposals for our community facilities which guarantee to maintain or improve the provision to local communities.
  • Continue to back actions that seek to improve the Borough’s local health provision and support the Mental Health Challenge.
  • Develop a long-term leisure and parks strategy that looks to support our local sports clubs, environmental groups and families in making the most of our parks, green spaces and leisure facilities.
  • Invest further in the Town Hall redevelopment to secure hubs for volunteer activity and develop a one-stop shop for local services.
