Manifesto for Brentwood 2015 – pledge 2

IMG_4879The Labour members of Brentwood Borough Council have been working hard on your behalf since the last election to ensure that frontline services are protected in the face of unprecedented funding cuts by the Conservative-led Government.

However, we still need to ensure all members of our community receive the support they require to live independently, to develop the town, to protect essential services, and with more Labour Councillors we could achieve many more of our ambitions. To highlight the difference we could make, and our intentions if successful, we have produced our Manifesto for Brentwood which outlines our five pledges to the residents of Brentwood.

Pledge 2: Support responsible development, whilst protecting our green belt.

  • Providing additional housing by bringing the maximum number of empty homes back into use.
  • Challenge developers to actually build on underutilised brownfield sites and where they belong to the Council invest in new council housing to reduce our waiting list.
  • Recognise the concerns of our parishes on the impact on their communities of large scale development before supporting any proposal.
  • Supporting only proposals when infrastructure including roads, schools and GP surgeries is guaranteed.
  • Recognising that parking is chaotic, demand that any development includes enough parking for at least two cars per household.
  • The local Labour group will continue to challenge Government demands that we build thousands of homes on our greenbelt.
