Manifesto for Brentwood 2015 – pledge 1

IMG_4876The Labour members of Brentwood Borough Council have been working hard on your behalf since the last election to ensure that frontline services are protected in the face of unprecedented funding cuts by the Conservative-led Government.

However, we still need to ensure all members of our community receive the support they require to live independently, to develop the town, to protect essential services, and with more Labour Councillors we could achieve many more of our ambitions. To highlight the difference we could make, and our intentions if successful, we have produced our Manifesto for Brentwood which outlines our five pledges to the residents of Brentwood.

Pledge 1: To strive for a decent standard of living for all working age people.

  • Negotiating with developers to adhere to 30% affordable housing quotas, with homes for first time buyers not further buy-to-let properties, and community facility infrastructure.
  • Becoming a Living Wage accredited authority and working with trades unions to actively support the Living Wage policy across businesses in the Borough.
  • End the use of zero hours contracts for any council employees.
  • Support apprenticeship schemes within the council and the community.
  • Invest in our social housing, bringing our own housing stock up to a standard of which local residents can be proud.
